Clyde Bolton Biographical Information
 
Clyde Bolton grew up in several different small towns in Georgia,
Alabama, and South Carolina, and his upbringing is reflected in his
writing. Some of his novels, including Water Oaks, and Ivy, are set
in the 1950s in the fictional Georgia village of Hempstead, which is
patterned after Statham, a real town located between Atlanta and Athens.
Bolton is a veteran of 40 years in the newspaper business.  He recently
retired from the Birmingham News, where he had been employed since 1961.
   
He has won numerous national awards for his writing. Two of his stories
were chosen the best in the U. S. among those dealing with stock car racing.
Bolton has written numerous books. His first, The Crimson Tide, was published
in 1972. Other non-fiction books by Bolton include War Eagle, Unforgettable Days
in Southern Football, Silver Britches, They Wore Crimson, The Basketball Tide and
Bolton's Best Stories of Auto Racing. Bolton now lives in Trussville, Alabama, with
his wife Sandra, in a beautiful house that she designed.  He is currently a member of the
Trussville Public Library Board of Trustees.
