Chestnut Hill: The New Class

Chestnut Hill: The New Class

Written By: Lauren Brooke

Chestnut Hill is an all-exclusive boarding school for girls only. They are top academics and also a horse school. Chestnut Hill has riding, jumping, and many more horse classes. Dylan, the main character, gets accepted into this school. She waited since 4th grade, all the way to 7th to go. Dylan went for the horses, like many other girls!

Dylan is put in a room with two other girls; Honey and Lynsey. Lynsey is stuck up and mean to Dylan. She gets Dylan almost expelled and in a lot of trouble. Honey, is a sweet girl, just like her name. She is definitely one on the nicer girls at Chestnut Hill. Since Dylan is a first year, she has to try out for the Horse Team. Almost all of the first years (the 7th graders) are trying out too, as well as some of the previous girls.

Unfortunately, Lynsey gets Dylan in trouble right before tryouts. Dylan is prohibited from riding. Will Dylan be able to try out and star, or stop riding and fail?

Book Review: The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Never judge a book by it’s cover, especially this one. Over the Christmas break I had the pleasure of reading Stephen Chbosky’s widely acclaimed coming-of-age novel, The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Although some people might be sceptical of it’s popularity (over one million copies sold), it’s definitely worth the time to read.

Charlie is beginning his sophomore year in high school, when his best friend Michael commits suicide. Faced with this tragedy, Charlie tries to find himself by participating in life rather then watching like a wallflower. Over the course of the school year he has new experiences in life with new friends, and with those friends tries to over come some troubling things from his past.

From the description above it might sound cheesy, but this was such a refreshing book after reading so many books that seem to have the same ending. I liked that because the book is Charlie’s journal it’s easy to connect to, and it’s able to connect to teens on different levels. This book is intended for mature, older teens due to the drug usage, language, and profanity. Even with these things being a part of the book don’t let it stop you from reading this great book.

Later this year The Perks of Being a Wallflower will be released as a movie! Emma Watson (Harry Potter movies) and Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson movies) will being staring in this film. Hopefully this movie will be good and follow the book closely (fingers crossed!). To find out more information about the movie please click here.

Happy Reading!
